Sri Lanka suffered an embarrassing defeat by an innings and 242 rubs in the first Test, and the loss also marked the hosts’ worst defeat in history and would be hungry to fight and level the series.
The team led by Ammad Butt, finally secured their first victory with a 2-1 win over Japan and then delivered a decisive 5-1 win against China, to enter the semi-finals. Their final pool match ended in a narrow 2-1 loss to India.
Now, the top four teams have entered the semifinals and the last two teams will have to fight for the fifth spot on the table. India have won all of their five matches. Pakistan are second with two wins and two draws.
The second Test in Galle also marks the final and the 100th Test match for 36-year-old Sri Lankan opener Dimuth Karunaratne.
On the other hand, Australia will be looking for a 2-0 series sweep. The skipper Steve Smith expects the surface to assist spin, unlike the first test when his batters flourished, which could pose a threat.
