MANILAps88, Philippines —  A resolution seeking to probe the mandated contribution rate hike of the Social Security System (SSS) will be filed by Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian.

Citing the Commission on Audit, Gatchalian said the SSS has yet to collect P93.747 billion in unpaid or unremitted premium contributions from employers.

“The uncollected P93 billion is a sign that there is a management problem,” Gatchalian said yesterday during the Kapihan sa Senado forum.

Member contribution rates will increase this year by one percent, from 14 to 15 percent.

Gatchalian said he will file a resolution seeking an investigation under the jurisdiction of the Senate banks, financial institutions and currencies committee.

Groups are calling on the SSS to defer the contribution rate hike.

In defense of the rate hike, SSS president and chief executive officer Robert Joseph de Claro cited the Social Security Act of 2018, which mandates a contribution rate increase every two years.

"We already have persons of interest. We're still verifying if they have any connection to previous kidnapping incidents," Galvez said in an interview with Radyo DZBB on Monday, October 21.
