Sealdah Court in Kolkata has pronounced life imprisonment to the convict Sanjay Roy in the RG Kar Hospital rape-murder case. The court also directed the state to pay compensation of Rs 17 lakh to the victim doctor's family.
On Saturday, Sealdah Court in Kolkata found him guilty of the brutal rape and murder of the trainee doctor at the premises of RG Kar Medical College & Hospital.
He was convicted under Sections 64, 66 and 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The former civic volunteer was arrested on August 10, a day after the 31-year-old trainee doctor’s body was found in the seminar room of the hospital. The judgement has come nearly two months after the in-camera trial commenced in November last year and 162 days after the heinous crime was committed on August 9, 2024.

Rahul Gandhi Defamation Case: SC Stays Proceedings For Congress Leader's Remarks Against Amit Shah, BJP
In what comes as a relief for Rahul Gandhi, the Supreme Court of India has stayed the trial court proceedings against the Congress MP. A defamation case had been filed against the Leader of the Opposition for his remarks against the Bharatiya Janata Party and Home Minister Amit Shah.
The matter was heard by a bench comprising of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta. The bench also issued a notice on Rahul Gandhi's special leave petition challenging the Jharkhand High Court judgment which dismissed his plea to quash the case.
BJP Leader Navin Jha has filed a complaint against Gandhi for his "defamatory remarks" against Amit Shah and the BJP. The Congress MP was quoted as calling BJP members "liars" and "drunk with power". Gandhi also reportedly referred to Shah as a "murder-accused."

Kerala Teen Sexual Assault: Police Arrest 57 Of 59 Accused, 2 Absconding | Key Updates
With the arrest of a 25-year-old man on Sunday, Kerala police have now arrested 57 out of the 59 accused in the sexual abuse case of a Dalit teen athlete. A senior police officer of the district confirmed the arrests, reported PTI.
District police chief V G Vinod Kumar said that the first case in this regard was registered at Ilavumthitta police station on January 10. All the listed accused, except two who are currently abroad,phl63 casino have been arrested after a comprehensive probe, as reported by PTI.
A 25-year-old youth was the last person who was taken into custody in the incident, and he was held near his house on Sunday morning, the officer said in a statement.

Israel released 90 Palestinian prisoners early Monday as part of a broader ceasefire agreement with Hamas. The release came just hours after three Israeli hostages, previously held by Hamas, were returned to Israel following months of captivity.
The detainees were freed from Ofer Prison, located just outside Ramallah in the West Bank, and transported in large white buses. As the buses departed, fireworks erupted overhead, and thousands of Palestinians gathered to cheer and chant to celebrate the freedom of the detainees.
