The Delhi High Court on Friday stated that there was an 'inordinate' delay in tabling several Comptroller and Auditor General reports on governance at state assembly by the Delhi government and refused to direct a special session for doing so ahead of the upcoming assembly polls there.
The senior lawyers for the speaker and the government opposed the court passing such a direction and said there was no urgency to table the reports at a stage when the assembly elections were to be held soon.
What Did Court Say?Justice Sachin Datta said there was an "inordinate delay" on part of the Delhi government in the matter.
The court also underlined the tabling of the audit reports was mandatory under the Constitution.
"The court is not inclined to accept the prayer of the petitioner to summon a special sitting of the assembly," it held.

Who Were Petitioners?Opposition leader Vijender Gupta and BJP MLAs Mohan Singh Bisht, Om Prakash Sharma,phl63 casino Ajay Kumar Mahawar, Abhay Verma, Anil Kumar Bajpai and Jitendra Mahajan filed the petition last year and sought a direction to the speaker to call a sitting of the assembly for tabling the CAG reports.
The petitioners filed the plea through advocates Neeraj and Satya Ranjan Swain.
The assembly secretariat had earlier stated that no useful purpose would be served in laying CAG reports before the assembly when its tenure was ending in February and no judicial order could be passed to the speaker in matters of internal functioning of the legislative assembly.

The court had reserved the order on January 16 after hearing all the parties.ps88
